Local Kokoro voices run on your Mac. Cloud voices are optional and only receive text when you choose one.

Local voices

Kokoro synthesis runs locally on your Mac. Text spoken with a local voice is not sent to The Harborline Company or a third party.

Optional cloud providers

If you connect ElevenLabs or Cartesia and select one of its voices, Free Speech sends the text to that provider for synthesis. Their services and privacy policies govern that processing. Cloud providers are never required.

API keys

Your provider API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain. Free Speech uses them only to make the provider requests you initiate.

Data collection

Free Speech has no Harborline account, analytics, advertising, tracking SDK, or developer-operated speech server. The app stores preferences locally in macOS.
